Plymouth International Airport is situated 5 miles north of Plymouth city centre, just off the A386 highway.
Opened in 1923 as an experimental project offering up flights to Birmingham, Manchester and Belfast.
In 1925 the airport was used as a parcel hub to help accelerate up the transatlantic postal service. Airplane couriers like Western Air Express, Olley’s Air Service and Railway Air Services all used the airport on their postal service routes.
It wasn’t until July 1931 that the airport was officially opened by HRH Prince of Wales, Edward VII as a commercial passenger airport.
Great for visitors exploring the South, Plymouth Airport motorhome hire is a popular option.
